Baccarat is not a new game, it has been around for quite a while, and has become a popular game in countries around the world. It is not surprising then, there are a few commonly played variations of the game. Here are a few of the most noteworthy ones...
This is an easy game. The rules and house edge of Mini Baccarat are accurately the same as American Baccarat. There are only a few cosmetic differences..
• Table minimums are usually $5 to $10 rather than $25 to $50, making the game more accessible to non-high rollers;
• The speed of the game is very fast and the dealer is controlling the game. (In traditional Baccarat there is player participation in the deal);
• The game is played on a smaller, blackjack sized tables.
In traditional casinos Mini Baccarat is now very common, and is also the form of baccarat offered by online casinos.
The rules of European Baccarat have a few key differences...
• The player has the option of standing or drawing on 5.
• The banker (dealer controlled) always has an option on whether to draw a third card. However, in practice the decision to draw or not will normally follow the rules of traditional Baccarat.
• Betting on the bank to win incurs a 5% charge of the winnings on each bet.
The rules of Baccarat en Banque are very similar to those of European Baccarat, with notable exceptions...
• One player and two banker hands are dealt.
• It is allowed for the players to bet on either or both of the player hands, but never on the dealer's (banker) hand.
• As in European baccarat, the banker (dealer controlled) always has an option on whether to draw a third card. In practice the decision to draw or not will usually follow the rules of American Baccarat.
Chemin de Fer is French for 'railroad' and refers to the shoe moving among the players like a train.
• As suggested above, the bank rotates among the players.
• The player has the option of either standing or drawing on five.
• The play of the banker is optional.
• The house plays the role of a broker and collects a fee from the winnings of each banker.
A variant of baccarat is Chemin de Fer, but the truth is Baccarat is a variant of Chemin de Fer, or "railroad" in French. Chemin de Fer was developed in France generations before Baccarat. The custom of players passing the role of banker from one to the other has given the game the name.
The game most in common with Chemin de Fer it is Baccarat en Banque. The rules are different from standard Baccarat as it is played in most online baccarat games. The rules of Chemin de Fer Baccarat are highly complex.
Baccarat Banque is a version of Baccarat; here the house always assumes the role of Bank as in Chemin de Fer. Unlike Baccarat Chemin de Fer, the role of Banker does not rotate. The rules are much more complex that normal Baccrat rules. This game is found more often in Europe, and can be found in online baccarat sections of online casinos.
Similar to the Chemin de Fer version the traditional form of Punto Banco baccarat is played at an oval table. There is a croupier, who directs the play of the game, and two dealers who collect and pay bets as well as tallying commissions due. Six or eight decks of cards are used, normally shuffled only by the croupier and dealers. Like Chemin de Fer, the shoe is passed around from player to player, who acts as the dealer of the cards and as "banker," but he or she does not bank the game. Indeed, the "banker" may bet on the player hand if he or she wishes, or may pass the shoe along to another player.
Baccarat is a card game where the cards are dealt from a shoe that holds 6 or 8 decks of cards.
Two hands are dealt by the house dealer, the "banker" hand and the "player" hand. Before the hands are dealt, bets may be placed on the banker hand, on the player hand, or on a tie. The aim of the player is to form a hand whose point value is nearer to 9 than the hand of the banker.
The objective of Blackjack is for a player to come as close to 21 without going over, while still having a higher number than the dealer. If the total value of the player's cards is closer to 21 than the dealer, the player wins as much as he wagered.
Vegas Downtown Blackjack is played with 2 standard decks of 52 playing cards that are shuffled before each game. The aim is to beat the Dealer's hand by either getting a higher value hand, without exceeding 21, or by the Dealer's hand going bust. In Vegas Downtown Blackjack, you can only bet one hand at a time
Atlantic City Blackjack is played with eight standard decks of 52 playing cards that are shuffled before each game. The aim is to beat the Dealer's hand by either getting a higher value hand, without exceeding 21, or by the Dealer's hand going bust. In Atlantic City Blackjack, you can only bet one hand at a time.
Red Dog, also known as Red Dog Poker or Yablon. It is a card game that is usually dealt from a shoe containing four or five decks, although single deck games can be found occasionally, as can games with 6 or 8 decks. The game only uses three cards at a time, which are ranked as in poker, with aces high. Suit is irrelevant. A wager is placed, and two cards are placed face up on the table, with three possible outcomes.
A casino table game based on the standard 5-card stud poker game played on a Blackjack-type table. The player antes, and is then dealt a five-card hand; the dealer is also dealt five cards of which only one is exposed. The player now either folds, losing his ante, or bets an additional amount equal to exactly twice the ante. Some casinos also offer a progressive jackpot paid to high-ranking hands. This table game is played with one deck of cards and you play against the Dealer.
Let It Ride is a poker hand game played on a blackjack type table, with a standard 52 card deck. Players try to get a pair of tens or better with up to three bets "riding". The objective is to make a winning poker hand from the combination of the three player cards and two community cards.
Pai Gow Poker is played with a standard 52-card deck and one joker. The player is dealt 7 cards that he makes into a five card hand (high hand) and a two card hand (low hand). The joker can be used as an ace or a wild card to complete a straight, a flush or straight flush only. The game is played on a blackjack-size table with up to six players and a banker. The object of pai-gow poker is to make two poker hands that beat the banker's hands.
Let Them Ride Poker is another game that uses the ranking rules of poker even though it doesn't resemble other poker games. Let Them Ride is a very unique game. It's a single player game in which you do not compete against the banker or other players.
Three Card Poker is two games in one, the Pair Plus game and the Ante game. These can be played together, or as individual games. Both games are based on hands consisting of three cards. 3 Card Poker is played with one standard deck of 52 cards that is shuffled before each game.
